Study on the northern Canada Inuit

For inquiry this term, we have the choice of studying and creating an art piece on one culture from around the world.  Our choices are Japanese, African, And Inuit.

This week we got a taste of the Inuit culture. the Inuit are based in northern Canada, Nunavut. The climate is very cold and minimal things grow there. Most of their diet relies on fish and another animal of the sea like whales and narwhal. this is a tradition for them and they only take what they need.  here are some of the questions we were given to answer.

The Goonies movie

Our essay topic (voted by the class) is the goonies movie. Originally I didn't like the idea of doing an essay on such a movie. But after rewatching the movie and lots of thinking  I decided that this movie has a lot to write about. Things that stood out to me was how detailed they made the adventure. It was very eye-catching and it kept me interested. They also put a lot of work into developing the characters themselves. Here is my description of a few characters that stood out to me.

Wearable arts

On Thursday Toroa put on a fashion show to display our inquiry learning. This term we have been focusing on the power of plastic, and how it affects our planet. We all got into teams and created a wearable art garment.

I was in a team with Nya and Monet, And we set to work designing our outfit. We decided to make our garment on the oceans and coral reefs. Fishing trawlers use nets that drag along the sea floor, It picks up everything, taking fish, coral and sea life.

Overall the night was a huge success, we all worked so hard and pulled the message off. Look after the earth!

Survivor Toroa

last week was a jam-packed week full of activities and fun! Survivor Toroa is all about dressing up and competing in fun games and tasks to win house points, whichever house gathers the most wins.

I am very proud of how well Harakeke house worked together during the activities. We learnt how to input everyone's idea and make it fair.

The challenges included things like a general knowledge quiz, spelling bee, newspaper fashion show, and much more.

Overall it was an awesome day.

here are some photos of the week-

Nancy wake Biography

For Inquiry this term, we have been focusing on power. Our task is to make a presentation about an influential and powerful person. My choice was Nancy Wake. Born in NZ, Nancy was a WW2 secret agent working for the French resistance. She smuggled prisoners and soldiers of war back to safety. At one stage she had to kill a Nazi with her bare hands in order to protect herself. I see Nancy wake as a hero, an influence, and the real wonder woman of WW2.

Graffiti Art

This week for art we made a graffiti art approach to drawing our names. we used oil pastels and coloured pencils to make the art brighter. I took a more messy street style approach. These will go up on the wall in the classroom, adding a pop of colour to the hub.
Any suggestions on what I could do to improve my art skills would be greatly appreciated.
